“I am grateful for who I am, what I have been able to accomplish and the people who have been a part of that, what I am inspired to do, and knowing that I am becoming who I am supposed to be. Who am I? I call myself a “Healing Facilitator” who has a 23 year career as a Board Certified Music Therapist, primarily in pediatric hospitals and hospice (dementia). When I am working with hospitalized children through Music Therapy, I feel that I am my most authentic self in my professional life. My work with those living with dementia is a very close 2nd. I have had too many exquisite moments as a Music Therapist to count, on the whole. What have I accomplished? As a musician, I was a member of the Tampa Bay Symphony, playing piccolo and flute. As a Music Therapist, my work has supported the growth of Music Therapy in the Tampa Bay area. In my current role, I created a specialized protocol for hospice Home Health Aides to incorporate recorded music into their visits with patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias. The service has been recognized as a “value-added” service for these patients. What am I inspired to do? Level up my service as a Music Therapist and focus on integrating Music Therapy more fully into healthcare. My vision is to see Music Therapy as a core service across the healthcare continuum. My main business goal is “Enhancing healthcare outcomes through music.” Who am I supposed to be? I am still clarifying that, but I think I am a person of love, gratitude, peace, and service…and unconditional happiness.
On any given day, I am walking my adopted retired Greyhound, whose race name was Hotfoot Ann Wilson (lead singer of Heart), teaching an indoor cycling class at the YMCA, enjoying a local craft beer and dinner with my best friend, coming up with a new cookie recipe, meditating with my cat on my lap, or running (when it gets cool again). I’ll watch anything Star Wars, but episodes IV, V, and VI with original scores are my favorites. Right now, I am focusing on personal and spiritual growth and developing my energy work practice, so I haven’t played my flute much. But, it was just overhauled and will be ready when I am.”
